New York Public Library Classic Picturebooks

The New York Public Library created  a list a few years ago of the "100 Picture Books Everyone Should Know"
Please check out the link. I think all elementary librarians as well as public librarians should be familiar with the books. Some of my favorites are there like Bark George, Goodnight Gorilla, It Could Always be Worse and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse.

  1. Caps for Sale is my favorite. I can remember the librarian reading it to our class when I was in elementary school.

  2. These books are timeless and relevant, I think, to all children, that's why they are and have been so popular. My all time favorite was, "ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY". That book is just a classic today as it was 20 years ago. Wonderful!

  3. I recognize many of these books, especially "Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day"! I remember loving to say that part out loud as a group with my classmates! The "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" book is one my sister reads to her kindergarten class and they love it. I think there is something in repeating fun lines as a group that makes these kinds of books that much more enjoyable to read out loud!

  4. Two of my all-time favorites have to be "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" and "Goodnight Moon"!
